St. Stephen’s was founded on 1 February 1881, which makes it the oldest college in Delhi!!! It’s a funny fact that the college began with just five students and three teachers in a small house in Katra Khushal Rai, near Kinari Bazar in Chandni Chowk. Then it moved to Kashmere Gate… now it’s finally in the north campus… For a college as old as this, it’s a pretty well maintained one. The Cambridge Mission to Delhi founded St. Stephen’s college in conjunction with the Society for the Propagation of the Gospel; St. Stephen's College is the oldest college of Delhi. It was first affiliated to the Calcutta University and later to the Punjab University. Since Delhi University was itself established in 1922, Stephen’s became one of its three original constituent colleges.
