Yup, after years of moaning, a huge bulk of Nokia users can now finally be happy. Facebook released a new native application for Nokia’s most popular device yet the E71.

The facebook app which was released yesterday does not offer the complete set of features that blackberry/iPhone users are used to, but it’s surely getting there.
I had some time to use it last night and it’s quite a good app. It’s quite slow currently and also buggy. Pictures sometimes tend not to load. Navigating to parts of your friends list is a bit tough and time consuming.
A few notable features are still missing too; there is no option to ‘like’ a status or picture etc. One cannot upload or view videos and so the video is completely absent. Another important feature missing is chat. The one reason I use facebook chat is not all my friends use Google talk and MSN. Some just use facebook and facebook chat is my only option. The omission of this important feature leaves much to be desired of the app.
On the positive side, one can capture an image and immediately post it up to your profile. In my tests, pictures got uploaded fairly quickly, almost instanelously. Tagging people on the pictures was also possible.
I have a feeling this application can be installed on all the latest N series phones as well as other E series devices. However I personally haven’t tried. Do take a look and let us know in the comments what you think about the application.
You can download the app from Nokia’s own OVI App Store. Its a free application, how ever you will have to register on the store before downloading it.
The link to the facebook app for E71 and E72 is here.
The link to the facebook app for more basic Nokia color phones that run S40 is here.

Either way, if you’re so bent on a good Facebook experience on your E71, the Facebook mobile site is still way better than the native app. There’s a lot to be desired in this new app over at the Ovi store, not to mention it’s a bit data intensive for all you users who pay a bomb for GPRS.
Yes, the facebook app currently is not a very polished app yet. Its good for certain features like uploading pictures for example.
But for checking status updates/pics and plain browsing currently m.facebook.com is clearly good.
