Movie Review : Twilight

Robert Pattinson’s gorgeous face finally hits Indian screens!
But that’s not the only thing that makes ‘Twilight’ which is based on the first book from Stephanie Meyer’s ‘Twilight Saga’ important.
In the world marred with practicality and diminishing intensity in relationships, Meyer brought to her readers unconditional love, extraordinary passion, and myths through Edward and Bella. Instantly, people craved to be them!
And the movie does just that, it makes you want to be madly in love.

Bella moves to the ever rainy and cloudy small town of Forks to live with her father. A city girl from sunny Jacksonville, Forks is not exactly her idea of a happy life… but that is until she meets Edward at school. Obviously!
One of the five adopted most beautiful children of Dr. Carlisle and Esme Cullen, and the most beautiful among the most beautiful five; Bella wants to get to know Edward. But he won’t come back to school after their first rendezvous when they sat together in biology class.

Days pass as she keeps checking the table where he sits with his secluded family during lunch. Then one day as she enters biology she finds him sitting on the table where they sat. He even introduces himself and they talk.
But it is Bella’s accident prone destiny that sets the wheels of their relationship in motion. Edward saves Bella from being crushed by a car, flying in front of her and stopping the vehicle with one hand. ‘Adrenalin rush’ he justifies!
And Bella is wound into Edward even more. An encounter with her old friend Jacob where he tells her old legends about the ‘cold one’ gets Bella thinking.

And before she realizes it… she knows!
And she is walking toward the forest as Edward follows…
‘I know who you are’
And thus, the lion falls in love with the lamb. (Tears and Awws)
Meanwhile, there is apparently a serial killer in town or it could be a group of them!

Comparing it with the book, Catherine Hardwicke’s storytelling delivers about 40% of all that’s in it, and (Fans will agree) is devoid of the ‘unfolding’ and ‘thrill’ element which made the series the success that it is. There is brilliant cinematography and imagery however to make up for the lost surrealism in the film.
And of course, there is Robert Pattinson who looks like a dream and makes you want to lick the screen! Then there is Kristen Stewart, who is so right for the part. Both the actors (Off-screen sweethearts, btw) displaying awesome chemistry.
So while Twilight may disappoint its readers on the story part, non-readers won’t notice the difference. Both nonetheless will get out of the theatres holding hands with their companions tighter than ever. So it’s worth it!

(Twilight sequel ‘New Moon’ which is going to be so awesomely awesome releases this December, so brace yourselves for that)
