Sherlock Holmes - Movie Review (Prepare to be thrilled!)

Guy Ritchie’s newest baby Sherlock Holmes, begins with a bang unlike many movies whose first 15 mins could well be missed. Sherlock Holmes and his trusty assistant Watson shut down Lord Blackwood’s evil plans of murdering a young girl just in the nick of time. Hanged Lord ‘B’ returns from beyond the grave to embark on a mystifying and dark journey to destroy the men that brought him down. In comes Sherlock Holmes, the world’s first consulting detective who’s down-and-dirty appearance would make purists of Arthur Conan Doyle’s beloved books squirm. It is now upon Holmes and Watson to unravel the puzzle that is deeply rooted within dark magic and sprinkled with a few entertaining obstacles.
A simple story, yes, but the movie is pure magnificence. The dark cinematography gives audiences a grungy feeling throughout the movie. The music is electrifying and inspiring making you want to jump out of your seats with adrenaline over the solution you feel you have just discovered along with Holmes. Although, Ritchie’s Sherlock Holmes might not enthral beloved readers of the book, it is meant to thrill modern audiences.
Robert Downey Jr. has emerged victorious, putting behind him his stumble in the drugs and alcohol area. Think a brilliant combination of Hugh Laurie from House and Johnny Depp from Sleepy Hallow to picture an eccentric, narcissistic and hate-to-love character that fills the illustrious shoes of Sherlock Holmes. Jude Law as the beleaguered yet extremely loyal and efficient Dr. Watson is brilliant. His crisp and sweet character is very lovable. Guy Ritchie brings to life a bromance that Law and Downey have crafted very well for the screen. Rachael Mcadams as the supposed love interest to Downey is wasted, although he does get flustered every time he interacts with her, the audience can definitely see that he is Watson’s through and through, even though he may not know it. Maybe she will get more screen time in sequels to come which was suggested at the end when Sherlock is about to begin a cat-and-mouse game with his arch nemesis Professor Moriatry.
All in all, Sherlock Holmes thrills, entertains and tickles. A superbly wonderful time spent and a must-watch.

What to watch out for? Sherlock Holmes planning his moves on potential attackers. Also pay very close attention to all the dry dialogues throughout the movie.

I thought the movie sucked. Not funny, boring plot and no topless scenes with Rachel McAdams.

A simple story? It wasn’t simple, and with that stupid accent, it was even more complex.
