The album ‘Short Kut - The Con Is On’ comes with six tracks, out of which 4 are original numbers and 2 remix versions of (of course) the two “hopefully” popular tracks of the movie….(yaar audio CD ki 700Mb space utilize jo karni hai!)

The 1st track is ‘Patli Galli’ with Shankar Mahadevan behind the mic. Though the track is peppy and catchy, it has a very ‘been there, heard that’ feel to it and is very similar to one of the trio’s earlier compositions, from ‘Johnny Gaddar’! For Javed Saab fans who maybe expecting some gyaani lafz in the song, prepare to be a little disappointed.

Coming to the 2nd track ‘Kyon Hota Hai Dil Deewana’ (a duet by Shreya Ghosal and Rahman discovery Javed Ali), you will find SEL & JavedSaab both greatly ‘inspired’ by the ‘Luck by Chance’ song ‘Pyaar Ki Dasta’. The song is fast & you might just feel it’s a Yashraj ki picture ka song, with lots of dhols & desi instruments..!

Up next, number 3. Kal Nau Baje (Sonu Nigam & surprise surprise…Alka Yagnik!) All the fans of 90’s music might just be hooked to this song because of the nostalgia it gives the listener…those soft numbers sung by Kumar Sanu and Alka Yagnik dipped in saccharine..

Well, the less said the better for the last track of the album ‘Mareeze Mohabbat’ (Nikita Nigam, Kirti Sagathia, Hrishikesh Kamerkar & Shankar Mahadevan). Trying to blend folk, qawwali and hip hop…too much hodgepodge..!

The album disappoints the listener to a great extent…here’s wishing JavedSaab & SEL best of luck for this album…as for the songs…”Patli Galli” is my personal favourite..!

Verdict: A let down in terms of music and lyrics, the songs may work in the situations in the movie, but once they’re on their own, you might just want to hear them on radio and not bother buying the album
